Where

It wasn’t until our dog Hunter contracted cancer at 3 years old that our eyes were opened to the realities of pet food — that what we assumed was “food” is, in fact, something else altogether: feed.

Turns out, most commercial dog and cat food includes ingredients not fit for human consumption or is processed in such a way it cannot be defined as food (despite what the label says).

“Why?” you might ask. It is a good question — one we never asked before Hunter got sick, and one we have not stopped asking since. The answer led us to form Paul’s Custom Pet Food with only one goal in mind — to make real, ethically sourced, gently cooked, and wholesome food — not feed — for your companion animals.

Our Commitment To You

At Paul’s Custom Pet Food, we are fanatical about sourcing. We make every effort to source ingredients from farms within 50 miles of our commercial kitchen in Northwest Connecticut. This is especially true spring through autumn when the local bounty is abundant. To compensate for six months of winter — and the resultant dearth of local food — Paul preserves much of the harvest, ensuring the support of local food and farmers well into the winter.

Whenever possible we use food sources in their entirety – reducing food waste and providing a more nutritionally dense profile.  Our beef blend is a mixture of meat, heart, liver, and kidney; and vegetables such as broccoli are used stalk- to-leaf-to-floret.  All of our food is free of antibiotics and added growth hormones.

We never use meat meals, rendered ingredients, fillers, added sugar, corn, wheat, soy, or empty carbohydrates such as white pasta, rice, or potatoes (unless recommended by a veterinarian for a custom recipe).

As part of our commitment to transparency and reducing our carbon footprint, we oversee every aspect of production personally.  We do not use co-packers or distributors.
