Business Membership

A listing is a business member benefit and a smart solution for any small to mid-sized business or nonprofit eager to reach the green consumer. Review our Business Membership page to determine your eligibility, review our Sustainability Pledge to be sure it’s a good fit, and choose an appropriate membership level. Creating your multimedia listing profile is part of the registration process, and you’ll be able to login to your account anytime to make updates and edits. Memberships are one-year subscriptions that auto renew annually. Click here to get started.

We welcome our business members to advertise by promoting their Listings on our website. Our ad services are accessible to business members via the account dashboard. Non-members may not advertise unless they are corporate sponsors. Corporate Sponsors play a vital role in community building through sponsorship of business networking events, public events, newsletters, publications, activities and guides. Click here to learn more about becoming a corporate sponsor.

We’re proud to have created a platform that prioritizes locally owned businesses. If your business provides goods or services that you believe would appeal to our users, please contact us even if you aren’t eligible to join. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your interest.

National brands, multi-national companies are welcome to explore becoming a Corporate Sponsor. Click here to learn more and start a dialog.

We thought about it, and realized that we’d be biting off way much more than we could chew if we did that. So we work on the honor system, but also ask our Business Members to sign our Sustainability Pledge:

I pledge to manage my business in a way that positively impacts my employees, my community and the environment. I am committed to continuously improving my key sustainability practices including those outlined below. I will eschew the Seven Sins of Greenwashing and follow the FTC Guidelines for Environmental Marketing Claims.

Key Sustainability Practices

While we don’t certify businesses or their practices as sustainable, we do invite our Business Members to complete our Sustainability Survey to become eligible for Sustainne sustainability badges and awards. These businesses warrant that their responses are accurate and truthful, and are subject to penalties, including having their accounts suspended or memberships revoked, if they are found to violate our Terms of Use and Membership Agreement.

We’re always happy to update our list of  subcategories for businesses that don’t see the perfect fit.  We want your business to get found easily!  Please contact us at [email protected]  to let us know the nature of your business and what subcategory you’d like to see it under.

You’ll want to scroll down the Business Membership Page to familiarize yourself with the many ways we connect our members with our growing community of sustainable consumers and with one another.

Make sure you’ve reviewed  our Eligibility Requirements and our Sustainability Pledge. And don’t worry – we don’t expect your business to be 100% sustainable – Part of our mission is to help you become more mindful of the impact your business decisions make on our culture and environment.

Choose the membership plan that best suits your business. Clicking Continue brings you to the Submit Listing page.

Your email address is required in order to enable users to contact you directly from the lead capture form on your listing.  If you are already a registered user, our system will use the email associated with your account.

Once you’ve filled out the required fields for your listing, click to agree to our Terms of Use. We encourage you to look over this document as well as our Privacy Policy and other legal documents that detail our protections, protocols and rules of conduct.

Part Two: How to Make Your Listing Sparkle and Shine!

After you’ve created your basic listing, you’ll want to enhance it with details that distinguish your business.

After you’ve created your basic listing, you’ll want to enhance it with details that make your business stand out.

  1. Gather Assets

The first step is to gather the assets you need to complete your profile: a logo, at least 5 great photos – jpegs work best – a description of your products or services and Frequently Asked Questions.

  1. Fill in Details

Sign into your dashboard, click on my listings and select published, then click on the edit button on the right.

Add your tagline below your business name.

Then type the name of your city or town – making sure to use this format: city, comma, space and state abbreviation. When you see the correct city or town pop up, click on it.  Then start typing your address into the Full Address field and let Google Maps  auto-populate. Don’t overwrite what comes up in Google. If the Google address looks wrong, you can go to manual coordinates and use the drop pin.  This address allows site visitors to find you on our map feature.

If you don’t want to share your street address, use the Full Address field to enter the name of your town, county, region or state.

Add the phone number and website you want to appear on you listing

You can use the default business hours, click to remove them and leave this blank, or add your own hours.

We want you to get found in searches, so it’s important that you select all the business categories that fit your business. Be sure to check off any special features associated with each category. The features will populate as you select the category. Features associated with your business will appear prominently at the top of your listing. Please contact us if you feel we should add a category or features.

Price range is an optional field.  It’s great for restaurants, stores or certain service providers

Got a sustainability story to tell? Share it with the Sustainne community in your detailed description.  When filling out the detailed description field, be sure to either type your text, or copy paste it from an unformatted source.  Material pasted directly from a webpage or formatted document will not format properly in the form.  For best search results, include keywords and make your description at least 300 words long.

Frequently asked questions is a great place to highlight something you want users to know about your business.

Add social media URLs, and keywords to help you get found in searches.

You can add a URL for your Youtube or Vimeo video that will be featured at the top of your listing. Test the link after you publish the video to be sure it works. It’s important to use the URL from the video and not the URL from the YouTube share button.

Our site is full of beautiful images, and your listing displays photos in several ways.

Upload multiple photos by dragging and dropping them into the images field.  This is where you can add your logo. We recommend five or more photos here, so that they will fill the gallery display on the header of your listing.

Use the Browse button below the images field to add a featured photo. Choose your favorite of the photos you uploaded to your gallery.  This photo will appear wherever your listing displays on the site as a card – on the homepage, in category pages, search results and ads. This is the place where you can upload a featured promotion for an upcoming event or special offer.  We advise against using your logo here – it will display better in the header gallery area.

  1. Update & Preview to save your changes.  Now you can admire your beautiful listing.

You’ll want to visit your dashboard frequently to update your page, check user engagement analytics, read and respond to reviews, and create ad campaigns. Update your listing as seasons change, when you offer a new product or service, or when you announce an event.

Let your friends and fans know you’re part of our community. Share your listing on social media, send out the press release and post your badge on your website.

We care about you and want you to feel validated, respected and heard. Businesses that are found to violate our Terms of Use and Membership Agreement will have their memberships terminated.

Sustainability

Sustainability means using natural resources and human resources ethically, responsibly and regeneratively whenever possible. Sustainable business practices value human health, environmental health, global peace and security as well as financial prosperity.

Sustainne

  • We promote our Community Partners to the Sustainne community to further their social missions.

Sustainne is a compound word derived from “sustain” and “ne”, which stands for “New Economy.”
/səˈstān/  – The dictionary defines “sustain” like this: “Strengthen or support physically or mentally, to uphold, to cause or allow something to continue for a long period of time.”

Our mission is to unite, nurture, and grow a community dedicated to sustainable living.  To help sustain a prosperous New Economy that uses natural capital* to support human needs and regenerate natural resources for the future.
