There’s more than grapes and yeast in your wine. Good thing we have clean-crafted wines to enjoy instead.
More than 80 wine additives are approved by the US government and they are widely used to correct flaws, raise alcohol levels, and preserve the end product.
You’ll never know if these additives are in your wine because there are no laws mandating that a producer reveal them. If you have allergies to eggs for example or you’re a vegan, you might want to know what’s in your wine. Some people report suffering bad headaches from just one glass of wine. Maybe it’s caused by one or more of these 80 additives?
Just like all food and beverages, we don’t know how much pesticide residue and how many GMO ingredients we’re consuming in wine unless we choose organic or biodynamic.
As a wine lover, I learned about additives and pesticides in the bottle a long time ago and that’s why I constantly search for natural wines, many of which are made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes. They smell and taste different. Their aromas and flavors are wilder (natural!) and more nuanced. That means they’re tastier and more interesting, less manipulated, more authentic and probably healthier for us.
You could easily make finding high quality, clean-crafted wines a part-time job.
That’s why I’m so proud and excited to introduce you to Scout & Cellar. I have tasted red, white and rose wines from their wide-ranging global portfolio on three separate occasions (I’m always a skeptic) and now subscribe to their wine buying club. Think of Scout & Cellar as your clean-crafted wine concierge service.
Scout & Cellar’s founder and owner is a FEMALE SOMMELLIER!!
Scout & Cellar wines are tested in an independent laboratory for pesticides and other contaminants. I’m loving that quality assurance and will pay extra for it. Isn’t that why we buy organic food?
Sustainne member Catherine Mackay is dedicated to bringing our community the same clean living products she enjoys.
